I would suggest going further, that being PRIMARY school, if public, should be abandoned in favor of either "religious" (if one can afford it), or "home school", subsequent choices as in "The Preparation" become obvious and likely prescient!!!! Take this path, all the way back to the "source code'. I was extremely fortunate, to have wonderful parents, and despite Catholic education that was akin to "brainwashing", alas an experience not unlike a Federal Prison like Terre Haute, or Shawshank, I came out ok, (albeit, things that did require shadow work) with a "specific set of skills". I think it's possible to capture kids minds at an early age and train them to be discerning and autodidactic! Why wait until 17 years of age? That's a waste of at least 9 years by my math!
What do you think? Am I the only crazy one? You know what these miscreants are doing to these fragile minds in public school? I don't have enough rope!
You're not crazy. K-12 public education is also increasingly just babysitting and of course extremely woke. Homeschooling is the way to go, but can be challenging for parents who both need to work to pay the bills. Also rest assured some day the Feds will try to ban it.
I have a daughter in law, (trained as an RN), who explained that it's a co-op situation where one mom, or two, handles a bunch of kids, where they share very common goals, occasionally a dad, or two will handle the duties to change pace. The home school material is already categorized, available, and if the kids wish to participate in sports at the public school, that's available. Here's what's unique beyond measure "the older children" who have mastered a subject, become tutors and teachers, a "feed back loop" that's magnificent. No way to ban it! Every rule that the Feds put up has an "escape route". It might not be pleasant, "show me a rule", "I'll find away around it!"
International Travel "as field trips" for months, becomes possible and practical!
I've offered this "thought possibility" to my son & dil, to my young grandchildren. "New language, new culture, new way of life, for a three-month trip is SE Asia"
What kid doesn't love adventure? They'll learn things in a few months that a Phd would spend years learning, and do it while their minds are still malleable.
How is the program for young women coming?
Sir Matthew Smith,

Kevin,
First, thanks for your thoughtful comment!
