Finally getting started

I’ve been talking about building my own version of Joel Salatin’s chicken tractor for several weeks now.

Lots of time was spent looking over the building plans, driving to buy materials, and trying to gather more information about raising meat chickens in Uruguay.

If you don’t already know, Joel Salatin is a remarkable man, he co-owns Polyface Farm in Virginia, he has written more than 20 books, produced a documentary, and he is the face of regenerative agriculture.

Joel is constantly seeking to improve the production level and overall quality of his farm.

One of the ways he has done this is by using chicken tractors, which are movable chicken enclosures that allow the chickens to intensely graze a small area of land, fertilize it, and eat the larvae out of the cow manure.
