Ranch Work

After the week and a half spent on artificially inseminating the cattle (and the natural lack of work around the holidays) there’s been little more than regular chores to do around the ranch. Though, it’s allowed me to focus on other interests of mine.

Time well spent

By order of Hernando Arias de Saavedra, the governor of the Rio de la Plata province, cattle and horses were introduced to Uruguay. Now, 400 years later, these great creatures tread every part of this land.

Sometimes great creatures get a little fat though, as my horse, Comanche, has.

Both he and I need to maintain our discipline. I took him on a nice slow ride up to the cliffs on our property. We worked through getting down, and out of some deep drainages, as well as closing some gates. Closing gates on horseback is an important skill for both the rider and the horse to know.

Comanche and I have gotten a little rusty, but we will sharpen our skills.
